Childcare Centre, Dining & Entertainment Precinct – Strathpine Shopping Centre


A development application has been lodged for Refurbishments and Extensions to the existing Shopping Centre, located at 295 Gympie Road, Strathpine,

Designed by Thomson Adsett, the proposal seeks Refurbishment and Extensions of the Strathpine Shopping Centre to create an Entertainment and Leisure Precinct and Child Care Centre, with associated building works.

The proposal is over 3 stages to include the following new land uses: Shop, Food and Drink Outlet, Hotel, Indoor Sport and Recreation and Child Care Centre. The upgrades are focused to the north west corner of the shopping centre of the part of the of Gympie Road and Learmonth Street.

Hours of Operation
Operating hours of 9am to 5:30pm will remain for the existing centre, except for:
– The existing Cinema trading up until midnight;
– Extended trading hours for the casual dining precinct up to 10pm;
– The Child care centre proposed to operate from 6am-6pm Monday-Sunday

The proposal seeks to improve the existing pedestrian activation, functionality and thoroughfare of the facilities provided on-site. The proposal seeks the significant modification works to the shopping centre contained to the existing shopping centre footprint, with work being either internal to the centre, on Ground Floor, Level 1 and roof.

– Demolition of existing tenancy, entrance and pedestrian area
– Building Internal fixtures to be demolished
– New entrance to the front of the building
– New larger pedestrian area
– New licensed outdoor seating
– Three new tenancies
– New outdoor play space

– New roundabout and moved McDonalds wait bay

First Floor
– Demolition of existing tenancy roof
– Removal of car park
– New Restaurant / Bar
– New large tenancy
– New Childcare centre
– New drop off area
– New outdoor play space
– New feature staircase

The planners at Urbis state the proposal will provide, “The proposed development is consistent with the intent of the Strathpine Centre Precinct of the Centre Zone by providing and enhancing retail, commercial, community land use opportunities. More specifically, the proposed development is closely located to key transport nodal infrastructure including the nearby train and the bus station on site.

The proposed refurbishments within the Shopping Centre will provide retail, community and recreational activities that will support the day-to-day needs of the residents in the area. Given the existing scale and nature of the proposed refurbishments proposed, it is not considered to adversely affect the overall function of the shopping centre, Gympie Road or the nearby residential areas”.

The proposal includes an increase of 3,271sqm of gross floor area (GFA) to the existing Shopping Centre on the 174,700sqm site.
