New Sports Precinct & Refurbishments – St Margaret’s Anglican School, Ascot


The St Margaret’s Anglican School has announced a new Sports Precinct is to be located in the schools northern area, adjacent to the primary school, between Butler and Lapraik Streets.

The proposal for the rejuvenation and redevelopment of parts of the school overtime, as clearly identified opportunities in the School Masterplan. Stage 1 proposes a new Sports Precinct and car park to address the existing pool age and co-located facilities to address meet the school’s needs.  Further stages of the master plan will be prepared as required.

Blight Rayner Architects, was appointed to the redevelopment project and has proposed a design for the new Sports facilities that included the opportunity to relocate the pool entirely. The buildings will be maximum building height of 2 storey (12.5m high), accommodating teaching spaces and staff room space. Parts of the existing school buildings and facilities will be removed to facilitate the redevelopment.

St Margaret’s Anglican School Announcement confirmed that “the development plan boasts a water polo sized heated pool enabling students to swim and train for sports such as lifesaving and water polo all year round; new tennis courts with lights and a new gymnasium, strength and conditioning gym and HPE classrooms. St Margaret’s recognises the importance of physical education, and the impact it has on the health and wellbeing of students. When students are at their healthiest and happiest, their academic performance and the way that they engage and interact in the classroom is improved”.

The planners at John Gaskell Planning state, “the proposed swimming pool building has also been designed to improve the Lapraik Street streetscape. The scale, height and bulk of the building is significantly less than the existing built form and will include glass balustrades and vine covered trellis cables at the western façade complimented by landscaping within the front boundary setback”.
