The development application has been lodged for a Sikh Primary School, located at 101, 109 & 115 Lemke Road, Taigum.
Designed by Zenith Design, the proposal is for educational establishment with ancillary sports fields, general playground, community hall and kitchen. The school facility would co-locate beside the Sikh Temple approved in October 2012. The aim of the education establishment will provide an option for the Sikh, Punjabi and Indian community that have students current attending schools in Brisbane. The school proposes an enrolment for up to 50 students during the week, 30 students on the weekend (language class) and provide 6 staff members in support.

New School proposes four (4) class rooms, staff room, storage, amenities, a new lift and admin/reception, within the internal refurbishment of the existing dwelling. A large entry awning, pathways and bicycle storage are provided to the exterior. The school proposes to operate between the hours from 7am to 7pm from Monday through to Sunday and the community hall from 7am to midnight on occasion.
60 car parking spaces are provided throughout the grounds, with 12 spaces (2 disability), drop off zone, bus set down area and pedestrian pathways are proposed in proximity to the new school building. The adjoining Sikh Temple car parking may also be used for the proposed school and community hall.
The proposal includes a main access to Lemke Road and large internal driveway to service the overall layout of the new school, community kitchen and hall. The internal driveway also connects to the adjoining Sikh Temple car parking area.
Future building envelopes that form part of the overall master plan are shown, though do not form part of this application. Future developments for new land uses may include further school buildings, kindergarten, retirement village, office, shops, single and multiple dwellings.
The proposal is for a new use within the existing building across the 76,914sqm site.
