Rooftop Bar & Refurbishments – Regatta Hotel, Toowong

A development application has been lodged for a new roof top bar and pedestrian link, in an extension to the existing Regatta Hotel entertainment venue, located at 551 and 534 Coronation Drive, Toowong.

Designed by KP Architects, the proposal seeks to upgrade the existing Courtyard to optimise the existing space and provide a new rooftop bar above fronting Coronation Drive. The new entertainment terrace extension will provide pedestrian links to the first floors of the hotel.

The planners at Urbis state, “The existing ground level courtyard space is a modern addition and the proposed minor demolition and building works will not impact the heritage values of the building, given all courtyard elements are nonheritage fabric”.

“The construction of the rooftop addition will be designed to setback from the Coronation Drive elevation and the materials used will be lightweight and transparent in design. The bridge connection has been carefully designed to transition to the existing heritage fabric of the verandah and the proposal will not impact the heritage fabric as only one single bay of verandah balustrade is being removed to facilitate this work”.

“The proposal does not significantly impact on surrounding amenity as the proposal complements the existing courtyard and is well integrated into the Regatta Hotel and Boatshed restaurant. No changes are made to the existing site setbacks and thus further preserves the amenity.”

The proposal includes an additional 125sqm of gross floor area (GFA) to the existing hotel and entertainment venue.
