Construction commences on Restoration & Enhancement – Anzac Square, Brisbane City

Brisbane City Council have commenced construction on the recently announced restoration and enhancement project for Anzac Square, located between Ann Street and Adelaide Street, Brisbane City. The project is aimed to be completed by 2019 and has closed most of the area during the first stage of the works.






The project is outlined as the fourth and final stage of the restorations to Anzac Square and is aimed to improve accessibility, enhance the memorial space and enhance visitor experience at the memorial and square. The project seeks to improve the preservation of the cultural heritage and significance of the location.

– Improve accessibility to and through Anzac Square
– Enhanced pathways, new staircase and lift
– New pine trees, plants and landscaping
– Large tree removal to prevent sandstone memorials damage
– Installation of new memorial screening
– New entrance to the WWI memorial through Anzac Square
– Improved signage and retained street lights
– Relocation of some statues around the square
– New sandstone retaining wall
– Fit-out of the post WWII memorial area to facilitate exhibition events
– Installation of interactive technology for visitors
