$400K Rail Level Crossing Study – Beams Road, Carseldine

A Planning Study for the rail level crossing on Beams Road in Carseldine has commenced. The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) as part of the investigation, will consider options to reduce congestion and address safety concerns for both rail commenters, drivers and pedestrians.

The community consultation will be aided by TMR updates throughout the process, with the planning study in consultation with locals and community in the area.

Either side of the train line along Beams Road has been subject to recent community discussion, with the announcement of a new Co-Education Catholic Secondary Collage and the Carseldine Urban Village redevelopment of the former QUT Campus.

Bart Mellish, Member for Aspley outlined that residents can provide feedback by March 1 and he was eager to get the community involved in the study. “After listening to the concerns of locals, at the last election I secured $400,000 for a study to investigate the feasibility of an overpass at Beams Road level crossing,”

“I’m pleased that this study is getting underway and I’m very keen to keep the community involved in the discussion. It can be frustrating for commuters sitting in traffic when the boom gates are down, so I am working towards solutions by kickstarting this study.” Mr Mellish said.

TMR outlined that a private consultant is engaged to complete study, which is aimed to provide confirmation if major work is needed, what form that would take and inform further planning that may be required at this crossing.

A spokesperson for TMR stated, “We are committed to working closely with Brisbane City Council, which is responsible for Beams Rd, and also the community to ensure their views are reflected in the outcomes. The community’s feedback will be considered when identifying possible outcomes”.

“An online survey aims to gather information about the use of the crossing, including where people travel from and to, what mode of transport they are using and when they are using the crossing. This information will be used with traffic survey data to inform the study.”

Project Investigation aims:
– Improved and more reliable travel times for rail and road users
– reduced congestion for all road users
– improved safety and access for all road users.

Project Timing
