Rail Overpass Design – Boundary Road, Coopers Plains

The Queensland State Government has released the design options for the $186 Million Rail Level Crossing upgrade project to remove the train crossing at Coopers Plains.

A business case for the project is under development and will take feedback from Brisbane City Council (responsible for the local road network including Boundary Road) and Queensland Rail (responsible for the rail corridor and infrastructure).

Project Investigation aims:
– Elimination of the rail level crossing for Boundary Road, in Coopers Plains
– Reduced congestion for all road users
– Improved safety and access for all road users
– Increased reliability to the rail network.



Key stakeholders and residents have the opportunity to provide feedback during the business case stage, with community consultation now open in March 2022. The feedback on the shortlisted options to help deliver the best outcome. Feedback can be provided before 5pm 24 April 2022 in the following ways:
– completing the online survey
– emailing your feedback to metropolitanregion@tmr.qld.gov.au
– calling the project team on (07) 3066 4338.

Option 1: Boundary Road overpass
Option 1: Boundary Road overpass (south aspect)

Option 1 – Features
– Removal of the existing rail level crossing.
– Active transport paths for walking, bike riding and mobility devices.
– A new Orange Grove Road underpass to Breton Street.

Option 1 – Impacts
– Some private property resumptions are anticipated.
– Some loss of land at Dickinson Close Park anticipated.
– Changes to residential and business access on Boundary Road.

Option 2 – Features
– Completely removes the rail level crossing.
– Active transport paths for walking, bike riding and mobility devices.
– Raised Orange Grove Road T-intersection.

Option 2 – Impacts
– Some private property resumptions are anticipated.
– Some loss of land at Dickinson Close Park anticipated.
– Changes to residential and business access on Boundary Road.
– Change to Breton Street access from Orange Grove Road

Option 2: Boundary Road with a 3-way elevated intersection



Option 2: Boundary Road with a 3-way elevated intersection (south-east aspect)

Current Funding
– Queensland State Government – $73 million commitment
– Brisbane City Council – $40 million commitment
– Federal Government – $73 million commitment.
