New Route, Viewing & Swing Out Platform – Story Bridge, Brisbane City
A development application has been lodged to extend the Bridge Climb to the northern end and peak of the Story Bridge, located above the Howard Smith Wharves, Brisbane City.
Plans lodged by the Story Bridge Adventure Climb, seek a proposal for a new route that will co-exist with the existing south peak climb. The proposal will include a viewing platform and a swing out area as a new attraction to Brisbane.
The proposal seeks to make alterations to the bridge, with a new entry structure, changes to existing platforms and additional structures to facilitate the development.
North Peak Route
– From Howard Smith Wharves climb to the northern peak of the bridge
– At the peek travel from east to west
– Ascend of the eastern northern anchor arm
– At the bottom travel west to east
– Returning via the western anchor arm
– 550 steps
– 60mins duration
– 14 climbers at one time
– Day / night time climbs
– Lean-out suspension over the traffic/river below.
The proposal outlines that no additional car parking spaces are provided and that a number of surrounding transport options exist.
The planners at Viva Property Group state, “The proposed development is for the development of a new north peak bridge climb route, viewing platform and swing out on the Story Bridge. The proposal will allow a wider suite of adventure activities that will deliver a world-first tourism product to meet the rapid growth in tourism demand for Brisbane City“.
