New Large Retail Store & Refurbishments – Mt Ommaney Shopping Centre


A development application has been lodged for a Mini Major Retail Store in an extension to Mt Ommaney Shopping Centre, located at 171 Dandenong Road, Mount Ommaney.

Designed by PDT Architects, the proposal seeks to extend out the south-west portion of the existing shopping centre and an internal reconfiguration of an existing floor space to provide a new large retail tenancy. The building will protrude out over an existing external ground floor car parking area and seeks maintain a modern shopping centre form.

The extension will be an elevated single storey with a maximum building height 10.75m (top of the new plant deck and screen). The existing car parking area will be reconfigured and include one (1) additional car parking space as a result of the proposed development. The site is within the District Centre zone and has road frontage to Dandenong Road Street.

The proposal provides 1 additional car park spaces and vehicle access is maintained via the local internal road and pedestrian access is available at numerious locations.

The planners at Cardno state, “The proposed extension is located towards the south-west of the site and will maintain an appropriate transition to the neighbouring residential areas in the south. The proposed development includes uses that will occur indoors and within enclosed buildings, and will not involve the emission of noxious fumes. As an extension to an existing shopping centre, it is reasonably anticipated that a no worsening effect will be achieved. The proposal does not include any sensitive uses, and as such potential impacts upon the site from noise, odour and air quality impacts are not relevant considerations in this circumstance”.

The proposal includes 1,166sqm of additional gross floor area on the 193,565sqm development site
