Mother, Baby & Family Unit – Mater Hospital, South Brisbane
A development application has been lodged for new mother, baby and family unit within the existing three storey Convent and Kitchen buildings located on the Mater Hospital campus, at 39 Annerley Road, South Brisbane.
The plans prepared by Conrad Gargett outlines the adaptive reuse of the 1926 Convent and 1932 Kitchen for the fit out of ten (10) new mother/baby beds, associated support facilities and spaces.
The redevelopment is supported by the recently lodged demolition application of the Duncombe Building and large portion of buildings along western boundary in accordance with the new Mater Hospital Master Plan.
The proposal seeks to demolish the extension of the convent and surrounding car parking, including minor internal demolition works to existing walls, doors and windows are sought to facilitate the adaptive reuse.

The Master Plan identifies there are a number of buildings requiring major renovation or demolition. The adaptive re-use of the Convent for the MBFU is envisaged in the Master Plan“.
