Master Planned ‘Health City’ – Greater Springfield, Ipswich
A development application is soon to be lodged for one of the biggest master planned communities in Ipswich.
Springfield City Group have selected Broadway Malyan and Conrad Gargett in collaboration, to design a 52ha development known as the ‘Health City’, which will create a new suburb in Greater Springfield and will be completed by 2030. The extensive master planned development will encompass an existing hotel and medical buildings, an expansion to the existing Mater Hospital and retirement accommodation.
Springfield Development Details
– Medical office buildings
– Business facilities
– Facilities dedicated to geriatric care
– Hospitality and wellness
– Education and research facilities
– Incubators for start-up companies
– 2500 retirement apartments
– Expended Mater Hospital
Ed Baker, Board Director of Broadway Malyan stated, “Our approach promotes ease of movement, with a car-lite campus designed to create an open, walkable development, to subtly reinforce a health conscious environment.”
“We have used the concept of healthy living as our guiding design principle, focusing on a development that will support and encourage the wellbeing of the people who will live, work and visit Health City.” “Because it is part of a long term vision, we have designed it with flexibility in mind to help with the phasing and any future expansion as technologies and community needs change.” stated Mr Baker.
The aim of the future proposal is to integrate a variety of health related land uses with residential, retail and leisure spaces. A ‘Living Lab’ and ‘Ideas District’ are features of the envisaged suburb and will be an incubator for smart living and healthcare technology.
Maha Sinnathamby, Chairman of the Springfield City Group stated, “We want Springfield Central Health City to be the leading health masterplan in Australia if not the world. It will be a complete health city, mixing medical and biosciences, with the latest in sport and leisure technologies”.
“We believe that this is a once in a generation opportunity to improve the health of the region and provide an attractive place to live that showcases the best in health, technology and innovation. Our ambition is to create a Smart City in the broadest sense that sets new standards for digital healthcare at the individual level not just the wider site.” stated Mr Sinnathamby.
The proposed development will occur on the 52ha subject site.
