Supermarket & Retail – Palmwoods, Sunshine Coast


A development application has been lodged for a local shopping centre, located at Church Street, Main Street and Hill Street, Palmwoods in the Sunshine Coast.

Designed by Interworks Architects, the proposal seeks to establish a local shopping centre that will integrate seven (7) separate architectural designed buildings that reflect the colour and built form of the existing Palmwood streetscape character. The buildings will be terraced in parts across the site, with a maximum building height of 9m and below the allowed 12m requirement.

The proposal seeks to contribute to the Palmwoods Village by positioning two buildings (with awnings) along Main Street and include pedestrian pathway connections. The new buildings will also be positioned to the boundaries of the site and will provide a new Supermarket and Retail stores in a central local business hub. Pedestrian entrances from Church Street and Hill Street will provide access to the plaza space around the supermarket and retail.

The planners at Innovative Planning Solutions state the proposal, “has been an intentional design review exercise that seeks to embrace the character and setting of the Palmwoods local centre, with the building design incorporating key elements of the existing townscape character through materials, articulated building facades and a roof pitch consistent with existing buildings in the area. The built form is also spread over a number of separate buildings that respond to the slopes of the subject land, allowing a bulk and scale that is more responsive to, and reflective of, the traditional built form of Palmwoods”.

The proposal seeks 2,500sqm GFA in total, over the 7,356sqm site.
