A development application has been approved for a new Indoor Sports and Recreation (Skating Rink), located at 34-38 Johnson Road, Hillcrest.

The Digi Roller Skating Rink (Indoor sport and recreation) has been approved to be relocated from the adjoining property to the west at 40-44 Johnson Road. The site is split into two areas, with the southern portion to be developed and the northern portion to remain vacant. The proposed development will accommodate a larger venue to secure a  skating rink (60m x 30m), food, shop and party function area within a purpose built building.

The proposed new concept prepared by RC Plus Design provides an elevated design allowing for a partial undercroft car parking. The internal layout provides an open void ceiling, with stadium seating and a bar viewing area upon the open void.

The approved indoor play centre includes various activity areas and party rooms, with ancillary dining facilities and arcade experiences.

A total of 184 spaces are approved (including 6 PWD and 2 loading bay spaces) for the facility, with access gained via existing access to the surrounding road network.

According to the planners at Town Planning Alliance, “the Mixed use zone acts to provide for a variety of uses and activities, including, for example, business, retail, service industry, tourist accommodation, or low impact industrial uses or activities”.

“The proposed development has been designed to comply with the existing and envisaged character and is therefore deemed to support the overarching purpose of the Mixed use zone. As such, the proposed development results in a high quality planning outcome that provides additional employment opportunities for Logan’s residents”.

“Overall, the proposed development reflects compliance with the relevant assessment benchmarks of the Planning Scheme, and therefore results in a high quality planning outcome for both the subject site and the broader community”.

The proposal is for 2,460sqm of GFA on the 38,560sqm site.
