Exhibition Train Station Upgrade – RNA Showgrounds
The Cross River Rail Delivery Authority has announced the new concept images for the brand new Exhibition Station. The growth of the urban development within and around the showgrounds, which includes the Herston Quarter and the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital has made the train station an important link in the cross river rail project.
The new rail line will activate the showground site every day, with trains enabled to operate daily, not just for events. The new above ground station will provide connections to the CBD, with connecting trains to the existing rail network.
The station will be designed to accommodate nine-car rolling stock with platforms extending to 220 metres in length to provide for approximately 9,400 people (on average) each weekday by 2036.
The cross river rail project has located train station in key inner-city growth areas that will provide for urban renewal and future redevelopment opportunities. The RNA Showground has shown recent high-growth in residential and employment areas. Access to the rail station everyday will enable further employment, property and commercial opportunities as the surrounding area continues to redevelop.
The new Exhibition Station will be retained in its current location between the RNA Showgrounds and the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, though will provide year-round rail services to one of Brisbane’s fastest growing inner-city suburbs.
