Christie Centre Extension & Improvements – Adelaide Street, Brisbane CBD
A development application has been lodged for office extension and improvements, located on the corner of Adelaide Street and Wharf Street, Brisbane CBD.
Building Designs provided by Fitzpatrick + Partners propose to extend and the rejuvenation the existing Christie Centre commercial office building to provide a modern contemporary façade to the corner site. The proposal includes a series of additions to provide a higher density, additional building activation and integration with the existing architecture.

The Urban Terraces
The proposed urban terraces are proposed to step back from the corner of Adelaide Street and Wharf Street creating several external rooftop spaces for the office the floors constructed above the existing two (2) storey corner building. Cascading gardens will be installed to soften the building façade and provide a unique corner element to the prominent building location.
Boutique Office (Level 11)
A proposed infill floor (level 11) seeks to create a office space to complement the range of office offerings in the building on top of the existing building fronting Adelaide Street. The new office façade is integrated into level 10 aligning with the tapering panels and creating a lantern top design.
The Lobby Extension
The proposed development extends the existing building lobby, to bring forward the building line to the existing property boundary and provides a double height fully glazed frontage to Adelaide Street.
Façade Upgrade
The proposed façade overclad of the existing building seeks to promote a new contemporary feel for the building. The existing double glazed windows will be retained and the new cladding provides an acoustic and thermal insulation.
Street Awnings
New glassed framed awnings are proposed along Adelaide Street and a frameless awning is proposed along Wharf Street that seek to enhance the sense of entry to the building increase in depth as the building sets
back from the boundary.
The planners at Willowtree Planning state, “The proposed development seeks to capitalise on further development opportunities of the subject site”.
“The design approach intends to promote additional building activation, through subtropical design, whilst still integrating with the existing architecture. The proposal generates a higher density development that
contributes to a cohesive streetscape and built form character, without causing significant and undue adverse amenity impacts to adjoining properties or prejudice to their development“.
The proposal increasing the site cover to 80%, over the 2,519sqm site.
