A new urban village in Carseldine, has been announced by the Deputy Premier and Minister for Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning, Jackie Trad.
Set in and amongst the former Queensland University of Technology campus in Carseldine, the next transport-oriented development/community has been announced, providing a vibrant urban village that is set to transform the former campus within the Fitzgibbon Priority Development Area (PDA).
Proposed Urban Village Elements
– $35 Million Redevelopment (Stage 1)
– 900 new dwellings
– Accommodating 3,500 residents
– Approximately 18 hectares of protected vegetation to be retained
– Connections remain to the natural environment with the Kedron Wavell Ballpark
– 3.5 hectares of open space provided
– Commercial, office and retail spaces
– Proximity to Carseldine train station
– World-class urban design
– Dramatic tree-lined boulevard entrance
– Four Stages proposed in the entire redevelopment of the site
– Four (4) years in duration
The area has already been investigated under the Fitzgibbon Urban Development Area (PDA) and the Carseldine Urban Village Master Plan Report that explored the options for the future redevelopment. Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) will be driving the redevelopment and further community consultation will be undertaken later this year.
Minister for Transport and Member for Sandgate, Stirling Hinchliffe said that “the new urban village was an extension of the very successful Fitzgibbon Chase community”. “The site, which is convenient to Carseldine train station, will expand on the model we established at Fitzgibbon and include some 900 homes for approximately 3,500 residents plus commercial and retail space,” Mr Hinchliffe said. “The whole Fitzgibbon Priority Development Area demonstrates how smart thinking from governments can deliver affordable, sustainable housing and build a real sense of community.”[espro-slider id=6740]
