New Science Building & Refurbishments – Brisbane Girls Grammar, Spring Hill

FacebooktwittermailFacebooktwittermail

A development application has been lodged for an Extensions to an existing Educational Establishment, located at 70 Gregory Terrace, Spring Hill.

Designed by M3Architecture, the proposal seeks to provide a new building (Science Learning Centre) that will provide general learning areas, science labs and multi-purpose rooms. The building will form the East Wing of the school and will built over the top of the existing playing surface/courts, which will be enclosed and maintained on the ground floor (level 1) for continued use for all weather outside events, HPE and general recreation by students.

The building will be maximum building height of 7 storeys (28m in height) and seeks to transition between the new modern building without impacting the existing heritage buildings on site. The building includes a unique internal void through the centre, which is designed similar to that of a ‘Space Time Diagram’.

Levels
– Level 1: 36.59sqm – Under croft playing courts
– Level 2: 737.40sqm – Multi-Function Space
– Level 3: 532.46sqm – 5x General Learning Areas
– Level 4: 773.20sqm – 4x science labs and outdoor student breakout
– Level 5: 699.05sqm – 4x science labs, prep room, sequester room, student breakout
– Level 6: 729.85sqm – 4x science labs, prep room, sequester room, staff centre
– Level 7: 733.82sqm – 4x science labs, prep room, sequester room, staff centre

Buildings Links
– Level 2:  Ground floor link to the plaza
– Level 4:  Bridge link connecting to the Main Building

The planners at Wolter Consulting Group state, the proposed development meets the intent and outcomes of the neighbourhood plan, proposing an overall height far short of the prescribed maximum. The building height is responsive to the sites topography, needs of the new building in terms of classroom and labs provided, but importantly, does not seek a height substantially greater than the heritage building on site, but rather, a height generally commensurate of the Main Building.”

The proposal includes an additional 4242.36sqm of GFA to the existing school on the 21,790sqm site.
