Place of Worship & Community Use – Beenleigh Road, Sunnybank
A development application has been lodged for Brisbane Croatian Community for a Place of Worship and Community Use, located at 338, 344 and 356 Beenleigh Road, Sunnybank.
Designed by Lyn O’Sullivan, the proposal is for a church and community use with a maximum building height of 2 storeys (approximately 9.2m high). The site is within an Emerging Community zone and will redevelop the
vacant site. The site is bound on three sides by Stable Swamp Creek, Keats Street and Beenleigh Road.
Development Details
– Hall (335.2sqm)
– Building 2 (224.3sqm)
– Breezway (176.6)
– Gazebos (98sqm)
– Bocce, badminton, basketball and volleyball courts
Hours of Operation
Place of Worship – 9am and 12pm on Saturday
The prosed development will provide a space for local sports groups, host small group activities, include a library, religious teachings and will operate a food bank on Saturdays from 3:30pm to 5:00pm. The food will be prepared and delivered to people in need.
The proposed church has been designed with a ground level open and under-croft car park, providing 36 car park spaces (two (2) PWD space). Vehicle and pedestrian access is proposed to be retained to Keats Road.
The planners at Reel Planning state, “The built form is reflective of the character of the area being no greater than 2 storeys in height and less than the overall building height anticipated for a new dwelling house. The development incorporates a modest site coverage of 13% with deep planting and outdoor use areas ancillary to the hall.”
The proposal includes an 736.1sqm of gross floor area (GFA), with 834sqm (13.8%) site cover over the 6,042sqm site.
