A development application has been lodged for the expansion of the University of Sunshine Coast (USC), located at 1, 5 and Lot 16 Moreton Parade, Petrie (former Petrie Mill).

Designed by KirK Studio, the proposal seeks Stage 2 of the new Petrie University Campus, which is occupied by the University of Sunshine Coast. The expension will include two (2) new campus buildings Buildings B & C (defined as a single campus building) and Building D and an open space area between the buildings. Both campus buildings will accommodate a range of academic, research, sporting, administrative and operational functions.

Both buildings are proposed to be a maximum building height of 3 stories (with the tallest 19.2m in height) located in the south west position on the campus grounds, with a series of pedestrian connections providing access to Petrie Railway Station.

The proposal seeks to build upon the university’s initial 3 years of growth, providing further buildings to accommodate the next stage of student growth since the completion of the Foundation building (Building A).

Additionally, the proposed building materials, internal layout, varied built form and building height provide visual interest whilst also enabling high visibility to the adjoining road frontages”.

“The proposed development involves the construction of the next two (2) buildings for the USC Petrie Campus; delivering a fully functioning university to accommodate a range of academic, research, administrative and operational functions. The proposed buildings will capitalise on the success of the recently completed Foundation Building and continue to provide a transformative opportunity for the Petrie locality and winder Moreton Bay area”.

“The proposed development is consistent with the intended use and location for a university campus in the Development area of the PDA, and meets the relevant requirements of the Development Scheme and State interests”.

The proposal seeks an additional 7,490sqm on the 3.87ha subject site.
