A development application has been lodged for Bar, Restaurant and Liquor Barn Store, located at 30 Harry Street, Ashgrove.

Designed by Brand + Slater Architects, the proposal is for the refurbishment of an existing commercial building, replacing the current Aldi Supermarket with a Liquor Barn. The proposal also replaces a Retail Store with the Ashgrove Bar and Bistro, which includes a new bar, dining and function facilities within the retained commercial building.

Ashgrove Bar and Bistro
The existing retail space fronting Harry Street will be refurbished and extended to accommodate a new dining and function venue. The proposed floor plan is separated by screening into 3 main areas. Outdoor dining is provided, with new landscaping buffering the street frontage.

Level 1 – Retained entry/exit driveway and parking
Level 2 – Bar, dining and function facilities (453sqm)
Level 3 – Liquor barn/Aldi store

95 vehicle car parking spaces (including 3 disabled spaces) and service loading bays are accommodated. Vehicle access is provided via the retained entrance/exit location to Harry Street.

The planners at Craven Town Planning state, “it is of an appropriate scale and intensity for a district centre that is the retail and commercial focus for the western part of the neighbourhood plan area. It would complement the existing retail and commercial activities in the precinct and provide the dining, socialising and take-away liquor opportunities afforded by an hotel.”

The proposal adds 113sqm of gross floor area (1,817sqm total) on the 2,763sqm site.
