$300 Million Luxury Resort – Port Douglas, Queensland


Far North Queensland has been chosen as the location of the first Fairmont hotel in Australia.

Port Douglas has been selected as the location for the luxury hotel that is in proximity to the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest. The hotel will be designed sustainably to complement the natural environment.

Michael Issenberg, President of Accor Asia Pacific made the official announcement by live feed at the Australian Hotel Industry Conference and Exhibition (AHICE) in Singapore.

– Lobby design inspired by tropical gardens and bird nests.

Simon McGrath, Chief Operating Officer for Aacor Pacific outlined that a new level of luxury and sophistication will be presented by Fairmont hotel, which is not currently found at Port Douglas. The first of its kind, the Fairmont Port Douglas will be the first Accor property branded in Australia.

“Accor continues to expand its luxury offerings in Australia and, as our first Fairmont, this is going to be a truly special resort, whose architecture mimics the rich biosphere of the Daintree Rainforest and, which is centred on well-being, nature and cultural immersion.”

“Accor has committed to working closely alongside the Kuku Yalanji community as the traditional owners of the land on which Fairmont Port Douglas will sit. Indigenous ‘Welcome to Country’ ceremonies will take place to open special events taking place at the new resort as a way to immerse guests and visitors to the culture of the region”. Mr McGrath said.

Paul Chiodo, Principal at Chiodo Corporation outlined that his company was proud be delivering a high-quality project to the people of Port Douglas.

“Chiodo Corporation seeks to create spaces that are built around the environment and local culture and we believe that the Fairmont brand shares this ethos.”

“Together, we will deliver a meaningful connection to the local community through this stunning hotel.” Mr Chiodo said.

The hotel is expected to conclude construction by 2023.
