$11 Million District Park & Community Facility – Archerfield Wetlands Parkland, Brisbane


A development application has been lodged for a District Recreation Park and Multipurpose Community Facility, located at the decommissioned Inala
Wastewater Treatment Plant, Bowhill Road, Durack.

The project is Stage 1 of the Archerfield Wetlands Parkland, which is identified as a Priority Project under the Oxley Creek Transformation Master Plan.

Designed by Vokes & Peters the proposal seeks Theatre (Outdoor), Water Park, Recreation Park, Kids Play Space, Boardwalks, Community Use and Environmental Facilities over the 8.65 hectares development site.

The proposal seeks to reuse existing structures in the north of the site for office administration, storage and plant nursery that are focused on environmental restoration of the Oxley Creek corridor and catchment. The proposed community use includes spaces within the building for  school visits, community functions and meetings.

The proposal includes a variety of flexible spaces that are intertwine via a series of boardwalks presenting environmental appreciation and wetland areas. Areas of “active play” have been provided throughout the central area of the site. The proposed inclusion of outdoor theatre as a defined use is proposed to allow for an outdoor theatre to occur on the event lawn.

Archerfield Wetlands is one of six priority projects identified in the Oxley Creek Transformation Master Plan and will see 150 hectares of green space is transformed into a unique recreational destination, educational and environmental parkland for Brisbane.

The Archerfield Wetlands Precinct Plan announcement incorporates community feedback during the four-week consultation period and establishes the vision for the currently underutilised and degraded space, with a multitude of new facilities for the community to connect with nature.
